Garfield

Jim Davis created Garfield, a comic strip featuring Garfield the cat for the first time in 1978. On June 19, 1978 Garfield was featured on 41 newspapers in the US. The comic strip primarily pokes fun at pet owners and the relationship shared between pet owners and pets. Garfield, albeit a cat, embodies several human traits, habits and problems. Garfield's life is pre-dominantly surrounded by his owner, Jon Arbuckle and Odie, Jon's pet dog. The other characters include Garfield's on and off girlfriend Arlene, Nermal - the world's cutest kitten, whom Garfield hates, and Pooky, Garfield's teddy bear and best friend. The most often used settings for the comic strip were TV chair (one of Garfield's favorite lazing places), outside in the open, where he loves to torment tied dogs, birds, etc, the fence in the alley, up the tree, the table with a telephone, the vet's office, the park, the beach, Irma's diner, the window and the used car lot. Garfield's favorite food is lasagna. When it started, Garfield was a flabby, plump cat. Over the years, Garfield underwent many makeovers to look the way he is today. It is syndicated in almost 2,570 newspapers and journals worldwide, and also holds a Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip. A film adaptation ' Garfield: The Movie ' was released in 2004 and stars Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt; Bill Murray provides the voice of Garfield.
